As a long time yoga practitioner and teacher, Michelle became increasingly interested in the more subtle aspects of the practice, particularly the unseen energy body. Curiosity and a desire to heal herself and help others eventually led her to study the energy healing practice of Reiki.
Michelle is a qualified Reiki practitioner at Level 2. The style she practices is the original Usui Shiki Ryoho style and has a strong and clear lineage path back to the founder of Reiki, Dr. Mikao Usui.
Michelle is a member of the UK Reiki Federation and is currently continuing her studies of this therapeutic practice in order to register with the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council), which will eventually enable her to work with Reiki in a clinical setting such as NHS hospitals.
During a treatment with Michelle, you can expect to feel safe, relaxed and at ease.
I am currently offering treatments at The Inspired Hub in Hampton on Fridays, 1-6pm. Contact Michelle to make an appointment.
PRICE: A 60 minute Reiki treatment session is £50 and a 30 minute session is £30 (prices correct at end of 2020).
Reiki has the ability to stimulate the human body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is also used for relaxation and general spiritual wellbeing.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy healing technique discovered and developed by its Japanese founder, Mikao Usui during the late 1800’s. This energy has the ability to stimulate the human body’s natural ability to heal itself. It is also used for relaxation and general spiritual wellbeing.
Reiki is transmitted from the practitioner to you through hands on body positions while you remain fully clothed. Reiki has an intelligence of its own so that it doesn’t need to be directed to any particular part of the body. Reiki will work how and where it is needed in accordance with your own personal needs.
There are no contra-indications to Reiki meaning that it is 100% safe and anyone can benefit from Reiki, regardless of age or state of health. Reiki can be provided alongside any other medical treatment or medication you may currently be taking. Reiki is now approved by the Complimentary and Natural Health Council (CHNC), and is now available in the NHS in some areas of the UK.
What Happens During a Reiki Treatment?
At your first Reiki treatment, a full personal, lifestyle and medical history is taken. This will happen before the treatment is provided. This gives the practitioner a full understanding of your background and what has brought you to Reiki. This information is kept fully private and confidential. A full explanation of how the treatment will be conducted will be discussed, and once any questions you may have are answered, a consent form will be signed to confirm that both you and your practitioner are happy to proceed.
At the start of the treatment, you will lay down on the couch fully clothed, but having taken off your shoes, you will be offered a blanket to cover yourself. Extra pillows or a covering for the eyes may also be offered. The practitioner will give you a few moments to become comfortable. You are then invited to close your eyes and relax. Gentle music is played in the background. Once settled, the practitioner begins a sequence of hand placements upon your body and hovers above sensitive areas such as the bottom and breasts. At this stage, the Reiki energy will begin to flow into your body.
If laying down is not possible, the treatment can be carried out whilst seated in a chair.
How Long Does a Treatment Last?
Your first treatment will take around 90 minutes, allowing time for both the initial consultation and the treatment itself. Any follow up treatments will last in the region of 60 minutes.
What Does Reiki Feel Like?
You may experience any number of physical sensations, such as warmth, cold, tingling or pressure from your practitioners hands. You may experience emotions coming to the surface as the Reiki energy works to release any energy that is blocked. This all happens gently and is unlikely to occur at a pace or rate that you are unable to process or handle.
You may experience a sense of deep relaxation or meditation while the treatment is being carried out. You may even fall asleep. All of these things are perfectly fine and you should not worry about falling asleep as you will be perfectly safe and cared for the duration of your treatment.
If you do not experience any of these sensations or situations as describes above, please do not worry, the Reiki will still have taken effect.
How Often Should I Have Reiki Treatments?
As Reiki is perfectly safe and there are no contra-indications, you may have treatments as often as you like. If you are looking for Reiki to help with a chronic condition, you may need more regular/frequent treatments. This can be discussed in more depth on an individual basis at the time of your first treatment, depending on your specific needs and requirements.
Immediately after a treatment, you will always be offered a glass of water. Please make sure that you stay hydrated following a treatment. It is advisable to avoid alcohol following a Reiki session.
People react to Reiki in different ways. The general advice is, to listen to your body. If you feel tired after a treatment, then rest, or at very least, limit any high impact or stressful activity. However, if you feel more energised after a treatment, you may feel like you want to get involved in more vigorous activities.
Are There Any Side Effects?
You may experience a detoxing effect which is why it is important to stay hydrated. In some cases, people have reported feeling very tired or coming down with a cold after a treatment. This may be your body’s way of letting go of something. These reactions will only ever be minor in nature.
If you are ever concerned or not sure about a reaction, you are always welcome to contact your practitioner to ask questions in the days that follow. However, most people report feeling better in some way after a treatment. Most people find that they feel really relaxed and calm after a Reiki session.
How Much Does It Cost?
A 60 minute Reiki treatment session is £50 and a 30 minute session is £30 (prices correct at end of 2020).
